5 Myths About Natural Cleaning

There is a lot of misconception when it comes to natural cleaning.  Here are 5 myths we are debunking today.

1.  Natural cleaning products don't work.

They really do work!  Vinegar, castile soap, baking soda, essential oils, probiotics are just a few amazing natural cleaning ingredients that work extremely well, if not better than chemical-laden products.

  • Baking soda acts as a cleaning agent because it's a mild alkali and can cause dirt and grease to dissolve easily in water.  It absorbs odors, reacts with vinegar, and it's slightly abrasive.
  • Vinegar is very effective at cleaning precisely because of the acid, which will break down grease, grime and dirt easily.  Because vinegar is so acidic, it can counteract some icky buildups. It can dissolve away soap scum, brines left by hard water, and glue left behind by stickers.
  • Castile soap is a safe, versatile, environmentally friendly, and affordable cleaner you can use around your house and as part of your personal care routine.  It acts as a surfactant and helps lift away dirt and cut through grease.  You can use castile soap to clean your whole house top to bottom.
  • Essential oils are a great way to naturally clean and disinfect surfaces in your home.  They're an excellent alternative to strong chemicals that most cleaners contain.  With natural cleansing and purifying properties, certain essential oils can be a helpful part of your regular cleaning routine. Not only can essential oils be used to cleanse surfaces and purify the air, but they leave behind a pleasant aroma that will instantly make your home feel clean and refreshed.
  • Probiotics are a chemical free and environmentally friendly choice.  Probiotics tackle the bad bacteria by consuming its source of substance.  Instead of chemicals that kill off all germs in sight, probiotic cleaners are powered by "good" bacteria which creates compounds called bio-detergents that detox home surfaces and break down dirt and grime.

2.  Natural cleaning products are expensive.

While you can buy some pretty expensive natural cleaning products, It's dirt cheap to make your own.  PLUS you can find well-priced natural products (and concentrates) because they are more readily available.

3.  All natural cleaning products are safe.

Have you ever heard of greenwashing?  Sadly, a lot of big companies have jumped on the bandwagon to use words such as "organic", "natural", "essential oil infused", "natural", eco", to describe their products which are anything but!  It's clever marketing so it means you need to read the ingredients as well as the company's mission to ensure you are buying truly natural products.

4.  Natural Cleaning is just a fad.

It's definitely not a fad.  It's here to stay!  Many people are now very interested in their health and ensuring their family is safe and sound.  Natural products are being released every day and it is continually growing.

5.  Chlorine bleach is perfectly safe.

Just because something has been used for years or because symptoms aren't noticed by all, does not make it safe.  Bleach is a known irritant and can cause health issues.

Allergy season can make even a freshly cleaned home feel uncomfortable. Harsh conventional cleaning products often leave behind chemical residues that linger in the air, increasing airborne irritants that may affect people sensitive to dust, pollen, or fragrances. Investing in organic cleaning can slightly raise your home cleaning cost, but it transforms your space into one that feels fresher and cleaner. Let’s take a closer look at how organic cleaning affects indoor air quality and why choosing safer cleaning packages can make a noticeable difference in overall comfort for your household. How Conventional Cleaners Can Aggravate Allergies Many traditional cleaning products rely on strong chemical agents and synthetic fragrances. While they may make surfaces look spotless, they often leave behind residues that linger in the air long after cleaning. When these compounds mix with pollen, dust, or pet dander, they increase the concentration of airborne irritants in your home. Residents of Plano or Fort Worth, TX, can be especially sensitive during seasonal shifts. Poor ventilation or closed windows can trap chemical irritants indoors, making indoor air feel heavier or less fresh during high-pollen periods.
