How to remove slime from carpet

Kids love slime.  It's fun to make and fun to play with.  But 9 times out of 10, it will end up on your carpet.  Not to fear!  We have non toxic solutions for you!

A slime stain on your carpet or clothing is easily treatable with non-toxic, 100% natural products.  Safe for you, safe for your pets.  Here are a few easy methods to remove dried slime from carpet.

These Non-Toxic, 100% natural products act quickly on slime stains

Vinegar + hot water

The first method is to spray a solution of vinegar and hot water on the slimed area.  The acid content of vinegar can help loosen and dissolve slime better than gentler cleaners.

  • 2 parts vinegar to one part hot water.
  • Let the mixture sit for about five to ten minutes.
  • Scrape with a butter knife to remove the slime
  • Blot area with a damp paper towel or baby wipes.

Rubbing alcohol + club soda + hot water

Another effective way to clean slime is by mixing rubbing alcohol and club soda with water. Rubbing alcohol can dissolve the tough bonds of slime and the club soda serves as a mild cleaning agent to dissolve and float slime particles out of the fibers so they can be removed.  It is important to keep in mind that alcohol can damage the backing of a carpet and stain fabrics, so be sure to use the solution sparingly.

  • 1 part vinegar, 1 part club soda to 1 part hot water.
  • Let the mixture sit for about five to ten minutes.
  • Scrape with a butter knife to remove the slime
  • Blot area with a damp paper towel or baby wipes.

Hydrogen Peroxide

The bubbles in hydrogen peroxide help loosen and lift dirt, especially when you’re faced with slime. However, the cleaner’s bleaching action means it shouldn’t be used on anything but white or light-colored carpets and rugs.  Don’t assume hydrogen peroxide will not harm your rug. Test it on an inconspicuous spot before you attack the slimed area.

  • Mix 3 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide with a half up of water in spray bottle.
  • Scrape with butter knife to get as much of the slime up as possible
  • Spray area and let sit for 5 minutes
  • Blot until spot is clean
  • Let dry and then vacuum

Effective

If you're looking for a solution to remove slime from carpets and clothing, look no further than all-natural ingredients.

Pro Tip:  The slime will be more difficult to get out of your carpet if it is still gooey. Let it dry before you begin cleaning, as scrubbers can damage your carpet fibers. If you're unable to wait for the slime to dry, use ice packs to speed up the process.

Allergy season can make even a freshly cleaned home feel uncomfortable. Harsh conventional cleaning products often leave behind chemical residues that linger in the air, increasing airborne irritants that may affect people sensitive to dust, pollen, or fragrances. Investing in organic cleaning can slightly raise your home cleaning cost, but it transforms your space into one that feels fresher and cleaner. Let’s take a closer look at how organic cleaning affects indoor air quality and why choosing safer cleaning packages can make a noticeable difference in overall comfort for your household. How Conventional Cleaners Can Aggravate Allergies Many traditional cleaning products rely on strong chemical agents and synthetic fragrances. While they may make surfaces look spotless, they often leave behind residues that linger in the air long after cleaning. When these compounds mix with pollen, dust, or pet dander, they increase the concentration of airborne irritants in your home. Residents of Plano or Fort Worth, TX, can be especially sensitive during seasonal shifts. Poor ventilation or closed windows can trap chemical irritants indoors, making indoor air feel heavier or less fresh during high-pollen periods.
